The look on their faces though. It’s like “Omfg, Charles. Charles, Charles. THE HUMAN IS WAVING. WAVE BACK, HURRY.”

Let’s get some of this magic back today.

The Kop embracing The Beatles in 1964.

There’s nothing quite like a trip to Wembley, and today’s a very big day for Liverpool fans. While Liverpool has adopted “You’ll never walk alone”, back in 1964 the crowd sang “She Loves You” and channeled their inner Lennon and McCartney.

Heartwarming Tearjerker of the Day: When Ronald Searle’s wife, Monica, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer in 1969, the illustrator drew her a Mrs. Mole drawing “to cheer every dreaded chemotherapy session and evoke the blissful future ahead.” Monica survived the then-experimental treatment, and died just last summer. Ronald died in January.
Now a collection of 47 Mrs. Mole drawings has been released as a book, Les Tres Riches Heures de Mrs Mole.
Said Ronald Searle:

“I drew them originally for no one’s eyes except Mo’s, so she would look at them propped up against her bedside lamp and think: ‘When I’m better, everything will be beautiful.’ … Everything about them had to be romantic and perfect.”

Beagle Liberation of the Day: At least 30 beagle puppies were rescued this weekend by animal rights activists from a notoriously inhumane breeding facility in Italy. Green Hill 2001 farms the animals out to vivisection labs, where the dogs are subjected to live experimental research and then death. Members of the Animal Liberation Front of Italy climbed over barbed wire fences on the grounds of Green Hill, then managed to squirrel the animals out through a breach in the fencing.
According to one ALF protester, “all the animals had a strong smell of urine, and one puppy about 8 months old, has an incision that runs the full length of his abdomen.” (See more photos here; heads up — some are graphic.)
Twelve activists were arrested in the liberation.

Iker Casillas and Andrés Iniesta go around asking for autographs

Courtesy of fairly convincing acting skills, Iker and Andrés were able to strike sheer bewilderment into those walking down a typical street en España. Instead of being exposed to hundreds of fans begging for an autograph, the two Spain legends were the ones asking for autographs of the men and women they met in the latest Liga BBVA advest. The conversation between Casillas and the first woman he talks to provides the essence of the impalpable encounters these average fans experienced.

  • Iker asks, “Could you sign an autograph for me?”
  • The woman replies, “Me? But I’m not famous. You’re famous.”

The idea behind the footage is a sort of ‘Yes, I’m famous. But can’t I still adore you?’. And for fans, that is a brilliant concept. It’s also probably a dream, but you never know right? [Subscribe to AFR]

Nelson Mandela: The Liverpool FC Supporter
We had to dig deep for this one. It turns out the legendary South African human rights and anti-apartheid activist was able to meet Liverpool when the club was on tour in South Africa in the summer of 1994. Serving as the President of South Africa in ‘94, Mandela was proudly presented with a Reds shirt by John Barnes, the club’s captain.
In a 2003 interview with the FA, John Barnes admitted that he was lucky enough to spend three surreal hours talking with Mandela. Barnes said, “Even as a kid, I didn’t have heroes that I would chase for their autograph. But Mandela was different - he is the only man I have been properly in awe of… I am not ashamed to say I had my picture taken with him and it hangs proudly on my wall at home.” It was during those three hours that Mandela told Barnes that he was a fan of Liverpool FC.
The spark that led to a little research on the Mandela-Liverpool connection came from a “105 celebrity fans” article on Liverpool’s official website from 2003, which also includes the likes of Dr. Dre, Pope John Paul II, Samuel L. Jackson, Halle Berry, Elvis Costello, and Michael Schumacher…

What I actually do, when I say I work in television.

I have decided to try and start writing a blog about my live trying to maintain a career working in television.

The first thing that people ask me, and the thing they never understand, is what I actually do. For a start, I am not an actor. I might like to be one day, but if I was an actor I would be getting paid A LOT more, and probably hanging around cool parties… trying to get a new role.

Also, I generally don’t run, anywhere.

The best way I can describe my job is for anyone who has seen 30 Rock. Basically the character Kenneth the Page: that’s my job. Except everything is generally more laid back, and I am not American. I am ginger though.

My job title varies, but it will always contain the word ‘runner’ in there somewhere. My main work is in drama productions, on which I will be a Floor Runner. This is part of the Assistant Director team, namely the bottom rung of that team. Drama productions is basically the blanket term for any long form fictional production, regardless of genre. Examples of dramas I have worked on include Ideal, The Accused (BAFTA and Emmy award winning, yo), and Sky One’s Christmas serial Little Crackers

What I do on these jobs is mostly look after the actors, make sure I know where they are, and that they are where they need to be (IE on set, getting changed or made up, or in their dressing rooms). This is quite cool because it basically means I get to hang out with the actors sometimes. If the actor is nice, this is awesome because I can get really cool stories out of them. For example, Andy Serkis is one of the nicest guys I have ever met, and went to the same university as me.

I also work in other areas of television, such as factual programming, commercials, and corporate videos. My job title on these productions is usually just as a Runner, but can be Production Assistant or Steward or some other balls like that, it’s all the same job. On these jobs I basically do anything that is asked of me. I have done stuff like carrying gear across towns, sitting in a van all day waiting for the crew, and driven talent and clients around Manchester. Basically a dogsbody. The money is not as good, but the work is more varied, and I get to do stuff I wouldn’t normally do. I’ve worked on shows such as Noel’s Christmas Presents (where I pushed Noel Edmonds around the Arndale Centre in Manchester, in a box. Yes, this really happened.), and Dickinson’s Real Deal.

And that’s pretty much what I do. I work in television. In fact, I also work in feature films. I’ve booked my first daily (where you do one or a few days on a shoot, either as additional crew or covering for someone) on a feature film called Blood, which I’m pretty excited about. Another string to the bow innit. I also have an interview next week for a show filming in Morecambe, which was the site of my first filming expedition, and was great fun, so fingers crossed for that.

TL;DR, I work in TV and film, it’s fucking awesome.

If you have any questions about it, there is an ask box on my page.
